It was only four hours when we
stayed at Singapore Airport. Six students and two teachers, who came from
Kamnoetvidya Science Academy in Thailand, had been having lunch at the
airport before we went to Christchurch, New Zealand. We got a special
suggestion from an old receptionist, who said “If I were you, I would go to an
information centre to get some gift vouchers. You can use them to buy anything
you want.” After we heard her talk, we were feeling grateful and then we went to the
information centre. Ten minutes later we were having many kinds of food without
spending our money. Some of us decided to use the vouchers carefully and bought
snacks from a 24 hour store, Seven-Eleven. We thought that the snacks could be
packed in our suitcases if we were full.
After having our lunch, we were
checking-in and waiting for the calling of our flight but we also had been
packing some our snacks which remained from our lunch. Then we found that our suitcases
didn’t have a free space for them. Suddenly, one of us introduced the topic of
declared things and our flight also was called. That made us regret leaving our
snacks. Then we got on the plane without chips because we thought that they have
to be declared when we arrived. Actually, our snacks could be carried into New
Zealand. They also weren’t packed in my suitcase because at the beginning, I had
asked all of us about free spaces but I had forgotten to check my own suitcase.
That’s my fault. I was feeling guilty.
Even though my students weren’t
disappointed in me, I was still guilty and bought some snacks for them. I wish
I had been more cautious.
